Transhumance Tracking Tool
The regional data backbone for pastoral mobility across West & Central Africa. I manage the regional TTT database, support countries implementing tracking activities, and author the cross-country analyses and reports.
Data scientist & developer. Information Management Officer at IOM — UN Migration, heading the DTM unit in Mauritania: I coordinate data collection on migration, displacement and climate-related mobility, and turn it into evidence that governments and humanitarians act on.
Three systems, one thread: reliable regional data, honest statistics, and reporting that decision-makers actually read.
The regional data backbone for pastoral mobility across West & Central Africa. I manage the regional TTT database, support countries implementing tracking activities, and author the cross-country analyses and reports.
Statistical scoring of local stability to guide stabilization programming. I compute stability scores with logistic regression, maintain the regional database and compile the cross-country reports.
How is climate change reshaping mobility in south-eastern Mauritania? I designed the methodology and key-informant survey, ran the machine-learning analysis — random forests, gradient boosting, logistic regression — classifying communities into mobility profiles (mobile, mixed, trapped, stable), and authored the report and policy deck.
Research at Cheikh Anta Diop University: scraped Africa-focused publications, built the content database and a Flutter reading app whose usage signals fed the recommender. Presented at conference, published by Springer (2019).
The path explains the profile: software craft first, then teaching, then data science at regional scale.
Coordinate the mission's data collection on migration, displacement and climate-related mobility: flow monitoring pilots, border monitoring of stranded migrants, multi-sectoral assessments of returnees, a climate vulnerability assessment, protection screening data and dashboards, and the Missing Migrants capacity-building project with government, ICRC and UNHCR.
Own the regional data management of the Transhumance Tracking Tool; support countries' implementations; produce regional analyses. Compute stability-index scores (logistic regression) and maintain the regional stability database and reporting.
Ran data management for regional flow monitoring: consistency checks, automation of Flow Monitoring Point reports, regional database integrity aligned with OCHA admin data, and cross-country DTM Mobility Tracking reports.
Taught data science fundamentals, statistics, machine learning and SQL Server, plus Flutter/Android mobile development. Tutored students through their thesis projects.
Built the Follow Africa recommender system end-to-end — scraping pipeline, content database, mobile client — and published the results with Springer after presenting at conference.
Shipped Flutter applications to both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store — pixel-faithful to design, with optimized on-device databases.
Depth over novelty: a small stack, used every day, at regional scale.
